I am (was?) in the exact. Same. Boat as you. My friend convinced me to buy it, I wasn't into MMOs but decided to give it a chance, then her level shot up to the stratosphere and I'm here at level, like, 29 still.

Don't play a human omfg. I'm sick of helping farmers all the damn time. But I like to explore and discover new places and points of interest. It's a beautiful game, at least.

Personally, I love playing an Asura - but they're the short comedy race for the game, so it's a bit hit or miss if someone will like them.

That said, there's still no reason they can't play with you. Since the levels scale with the area they wouldn't be taking an exp hit by doing events with you, or anything.
