I'm aware. Although I want to thank you for not being a jerk about it -seriously; bullying-activism is just the worst- I don't think I was in the wrong. Which is not to say I don't agree with you; it is definitely a slur in modern context.

However, the Disney film, as well as Hugo's original novel, iirc, use that term, and only that term. Also, this work does not point out that Esmeralda's people are Roma, or any other specific Romani subgourp; this is more of a personal decision, but I don't want to call them Roma if they are Sinti. "Gypsy", although an admittedly offensive term, is the only word available in the Hunchback context.
