I can see why you would be scared of riding that coaster, it's a headbanging vekoma.

I always mistrusted rollercoaster constructions and I'm always wary of power tools and trucks with flimsy looking security - and for good reason. It never hurts to think about how squishy and easily damagable we humans are as long as you don't let it control every aspect of your life.

what bothers me about the FD movies is the implication that it's wrong to save someone's life.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-17 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
idk they don't really imply that it's wrong to save someone's life. but because the characters cheated death in an unnatural way (i.e. magical premonitions that came from who-knows-where) the characters somehow cheated Death, thus their lives can't be saved.

if you save someone's life in a normal non-premonition-involved situation, then that would mean the person wasn't destined to die to begin with.

What a weird coincidence. I have been talking about this movie for the past couple of days. I've never seen it, but I want to!

I guess you being afraid of doing those things is what makes it a good horror movie, OP :0

It always makes me a bit sad when I see secrets like this. Because joy and excitement and enjoyment shouldn't be a secret.

annnd that was supposed to be to #2. Oh anon, you have failed.

I still love you, anon.

This is actually why the Final Destination franchise is my favorite. If a movie (or movie series) can still mess with my head after leaving the theater/turning off the DVD or TV, then I can appreciate it for that.

LOL I love it when movies destroy my soul

I've never seen these movies for that very reason; I know I would have the same reaction. Hell, I worry about this kind of shit happening anyway, so I don't need a movie to make me more paranoid.

For the record, the second FD movie taught me to pay attention on the road. I avoid/keep a close eye on trucks carrying loads now, especially logs.

I hate horror films but a friend told me I had to see it. I don't regret watching it, but I won't watch it again. The concept is cool but everyone dies in such gross ways I find it more pathetic than interesting because of it. IDK. I feel like resorting to dramatic gory death to make your point feels pretty flimsy but the general idea (you can't cheat death) is pretty neat.

But like the above anon said, the message that it's wrong to save someone's life? Has me feeling pretty eeeeeeehhhhhhhhh about the movies too. IDK.

You are not alone.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-17 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
Ooh, anon. It's the same for me. I don't like horror movies, but when I was 'pressured' (by my friends) to watch it, I would be scared out of my wits in the theatre but...that's it. The worst it gets is that I have to turn on my lights when I'm sleeping at night. Heck, even Saw only disgusts me.

But Final Destination is just...? I've only watched 2 and 5, BUT FREAKING HELL it's the only horror movies that ALWAYS HAUNT ME EVEN TODAY. I've become way too paranoid in freaking everything, like I seriously have a distrust of elevator or that I get silent every time my car drives behind a truck (because that thing with the logs? Happened with my mom's friend. He was luckily able to spot the ropes snap to get out from his car before the loads fell down on it. He's uninjured, but the car's freaking totalled).

This series helped me realized how much paranoia is involved in my GAD

Well, they're right about tanning beds killing you, one way or another.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-17 04:28 am (UTC)(link)
Yeaaah, this movie did the same thing to me, OP :/

I can't do most of those things now, either :-S

But, as per those movies....

If Death's supposed to get you, he'll get you. If he's after your ass avoiding those things just means he's got to come up with more and more absurd and humiliating ways to kill you.

If he's not gunning for you, you're freaking out over nothing.

So ride the coasters, be cautious, but not paranoid, around overloaded vehicles and power tools (...avoid tanning booths, those things are no good for you even if they don't malfunction in a physically improbable way and fry you)...if Death wants you, at least he'll take you in a way that won't make the people who arrive at the scene laugh at you posthumously.

Rescue 911 made me afraid of a lot of things. Especially Escalators. If you knwo what I'm talking about, you get it.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-17 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I think Rescue 911 is the reason I was terrified of doing ANYTHING even the slightest bit risky as a teen. It always ends in a hospital visit no matter what you're doing so you shouldn't do it!
