Part of me thinks it will be great story potential. The other part of me is screaming, ugh that is just way too obvious please let it be something else.

But I can't really figure out why he would be so obsessed with her if her father was just a best friend or something.

I did think maybe he was like her godfather and he wasn't actually the one who killed his family and he is using her as his last chance at family. ( I think he was suppose to be the one who killed his family?)

Maybe have him believe he is her father, only for them both to find out he isn't? That allows for the great storylines while also not being obvious.

But I can't really figure out why he would be so obsessed with her if her father was just a best friend or something.

I headcanoned that her father might have been Red's lover and they were going to raise her together, but something happened and that's why Red cares so much. But I think that's farther-fetched than anything.
