Inspired by a few comments in response to secret four, what are your favorite friendships between female characters? Do you ship them as well?

Mine are:
Cassandra Cain and Stephanie Brown from DC
Barbara Gordon and Dinah Lance from DC
Misty Knight and Colleen Wing from Marvel Comics
Minto and Ichigo from Tokyo Mew Mew
All of the inner Sailor Senshi from Sailor Moon
All of the Mane Six from My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic

And I do indeed ship most of those at least a little. I love strong friendships, but I also love romantic relationships built on strong friendships, so.

Annie and Kat from Gunnerkrigg!

OMG! Yes! How could I forget them!

I am invested in their friendship the same way I'm invested in most ships. I get that people ship them romantically but personally I'm just like "YES. KEEP BEING FRIENDS. PLATONIC HARDER." I'm explaining this very poorly, as I am exhausted.

I completely understand. I can't see then as anything but friends, for one thing Annie doesn't seem like the type to ever get the hang of romance anything to me.

Paz/Kat is all kinds of adorable to me too.

I cannot YES, THIS loud enough.

I'd definitely have to second the inner senshi, also Chibiusa, and Hotaru. I don't really ship any of them together though

Fam Fan Fan, Giselle Colette, and Princess Millia From Last Exile Fam the Silver Wing. I do ship them!

Granny Weatherwax, and Nanny Ogg from Discworld. Don't ship it. Also from Discworld Cherry, and Angua. don't ship that either.

Storm and Kitty or Kitty and Rachel in X-Men. I don't ship them, since I like them best as friends.

Granny Weatherwax and Nanny Ogg in Discworld. Cranky and perverted old women at their best. Magrat Garlick as well, I suppose.

Leslie and Anne are my current favourite, they're hilarious.

Agreed. They have a wonderful and dynamic friendship.

Gabrielle and Xena would be the oldest, and I shipped them so hard that I didn't particularity like either of them being with other people.

Cara/Kahlan from Legend of the Seeker. I sorta ship it. I love Richard/Kahlan too though and could easily imagine Cara having some unrequited feelings for Kahlan.

Seconding Barbara and Dinah. Again, I really love Dick and Babs together, but imo Barbara and Dinah have undeniable chemistry. They would make a great couple, and their friendship is beautiful and heartwarming.

It isn't exactly a normal friendship, but Isabela and Aveline from Dragon Age 2 were kind of amazing. I don't ship it, though.

Vanille and Fang from FFXIII had an unbreakable bond, but I never finished the game (or the ones that came after) so I'm not sure how that turned out. Also, I'm not sure they were only friends. (They really felt more like a couple, but IDK if that's canon or not.)

Lara and Sam from the newest Tomb Raider, and yes, I def ship them.

Shion and KOS-MOS from Xenosaga, and I love them together too.

Snow/Red from ONCE. I love Snow/Charming but Snow/Red are ridiculously adorable as well.

They really are! They're a great example of how two women don't have to agree or even get along all the time to respect and support each other.

Yes! They took me by surprise. I loved the growth those two went through during the course of the game; it was delightful seeing their relationship slowly change.

Janeway and Seven of Nine...if that counts as a friendship. It's more mentor-y, but good female friendships are so rare.

I also have a headcanon that Helga Hufflepuff and Rowena Ravenclaw had an EPIC FRIENDSHIP OF MONUMENTAL ETERNAL EPICNESS to contrast with Godric Gryffindor and Salazar Slytherin's DOOMED FRIENDSHIP OF TRAGIC HEARTBREAKING DOOM. It is just a headcanon, but I am absolutely 100% committed to it.

(It also may or may not involve Helga rescuing Rowena from witchburners who feared her intelligence using a pitchfork and a giant Viking horse.)

+1 to Annie and Kat, Chibi-Usa and Hotaru, Ororo and Kitty, Rachel and Kitty (I could have SWORN I had them in my list...), Xena and Gabrielle, Teyla and Kate, Lucy and Ethel.

Adding Helga and Pheobe from Hey Arnold!, who I forgot about until someone mentioned Arnold and Helga in the OTP thread. I also like Rhonda and Big Patty, but they only had one episode as friends that I can remember :(

Morrigan and a Female Warden (Dragon Age)

Isabela, Aveline, and Merrill (Dragon Age 2), especially Aveline and Isabela, female rivalry done right

Bayonetta and Jeanne (Bayonetta)

This. I find the femPC-Morrigan friendship far more moving and meaningful than the malePC-Morrigan romance.

Madoka and Mami, Madoka and Sayaka, Sayaka and Kyoko from Puella Magi Madoka Magica. I only really ship the last pair.

Aoi and Sakura from Dangan Ronpa. I kind of ship it, but mostly with the romantic feelings being one-sided from Aoi.

Ahiru and Rue from Princess Tutu. No shipping here.

Aika and Fina from Skies of Arcadia. I ship them in an OT3 with Vyse, and also just each other.

Also love the already mentioned Inner Senshi (especially Usagi and Rei), Chibiusa and Hotaru, and Xena and Gabrielle. I don't especially ship any of those... yeah, not even Xena/Gabrielle. I think it's because I was a fan before my brain was wired for shipping and I don't tend to change my mind about those.

I don't ship the OT3 but they're all great characters and I loved that bit in the game where Aika and Fina were separated from Vyse. And just the whole thing in general, really; it was fantastic. (But I too liked the friendship that formed between Aika and Fina. They were all so CUTE.)

Angua and Cheery from Discworld, too. I love the thought of them having a girls' night and braiding each other's hair/beard
