Sigh. I personally would not be terribly interested in going to a con without cosplaying - but IT'S NOT FOR EVERYONE. I have friends who do not cosplay, who just wear a geeky shirt and jeans, and we spend the whole day hanging out with me in a weird costume and them occasionally stepping aside (and holding my bag! It's convenient!) when someone wants my picture. No biggie! It's sad when people don't get that.

Seriously, if you don't want to cosplay, if you are going for other reasons, then you don't have to cosplay. I would say tell your friends to knock it off, but it sounds like they have, and they're not really so much your friends anyway. :P
