Heh, I'm the same way sometimes. Not a fan of Sherlock (to name an example), but there's a few fics out there that cater to my kinks/proclivities, so yeah. =V

Yeah, there's nothing wrong with reading by kink alone.

This is pretty much all I use AO3 for because it's easy to search by kink.

I usually hit up a Wiki page first (so I understand the main plot points), but yeah I have done the same for certain tropes/kinks.

Sociopath Sherlock Holmes is canon for BBC Sherlock.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-19 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
That was a joke.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-18 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I try to watch at least one episode but yeah the same

I do that all the time. Reading fic (and gifsets) got me to watch BBC Sherlock.

Even within fandoms I'm actually in, I love seeing different interpretations of characters. I love sarcastic Tony and clueless Steve, and culture-shocked Thor. And, hell, I'll admit to being all over redemption-seeking Draco. And prankster Elladan and Elrohir.

Sometimes fanon is just more fun or well developed, or we just connect with it more.

When I had to write kinks not in my headspace I did the same thing - read fics in fandoms I didn't know so that I wouldn't be distracted by any OOC-ness present.

Yeah, i do this. If the fic is good, why not?

(Anonymous) 2013-10-19 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
I think that makes a lot of sense. Of course you're going to enjoy the over done tropes like Pack Mom Stiles, because you have no actual idea of what the character is like so it's not over the top OOC for you.

And I do the same thing. I like to see how certain trends cross all fandoms, or how it'll invade fandoms in a wave. And sometimes I just like a certain characteristic or style and will search for that and not care about the fandom.

I cannot even count the number of fandoms I avidly read fic for which I have never even watched a single episode of or have gained an interest in watching solely based on the fic I've read. You're definitly not alone in this.

stargate atlantis!

I was legit horrified by how terrible the show is when so much of the fandom was so good!

Awww, I loved the show. Some of it was terrible but the characters were funny and lovable.

I keep reading mostly gen Homestuck AUs. The amount of pages I've read I can count on both hands. WHY DO I KEEP READING HOMESTUCK AUS.
