Overrated

What do you think is overrated, and why?

I'll vote for Disney World/Land. As far as I can tell you get to stand in five hour lines with grumpy people and screaming children. Why would I want to do that to myself?

I don't like him in most things. But I love him in Stranger than Fiction!

Same but with the exception that I liked him in Megamind.

It was okay...

I couldn't get over how random people were allowed in a federal building though. Shit. You can't even take your fetus in federal building without going through so much shit. Stupid complaint, but it's one one those things that when you know how it is, it grates.

Same here. That movie is my favorite movie of all time, which surprised me in a way because I didn't expect Will Ferrell to play such a serious role. To me, it showed he's quite a versatile actor.

David Bowie.

I've never find him attractive tbh. And his music is decent.

FF7.

OH MAN, FF7.

(Not that it is a BAD game, in fact I rather like it. But you'd think it was the second coming.)

Have you actually been to them? (Simply curious.)

Uh, hmmm, something I think is overrated? Pizza. Hollywood. Comic Con. Ico.

Re: Overrated

(Anonymous) 2013-10-19 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I have. I think the problem though is that I went twice when I was little enough that the crabby people and long lines went over my head, and then once when I was an adult and cared more about being happy and comfortable than riding everything I could.

Have you been to the parks before, or are you basing this off of experiences with others? I've never been either, and I don't particularly want to go, but a common chorus I've heard is that Disney really goes way, way, way out of their way to make people enjoy them.

Re: Overrated

I love Disneyland and I can't imagine not loving it. I'm normally kind of a grouch, and I normally hate crowds and lines, but I don't know, something about Disneyland, it's just a happy place. There's lines, but they usually go to the trouble of thinking about them and making sure that you move along OK and that you aren't just looking at the same thing for hours. There's crowds, but they're usually good enough about designing spaces to make sure they're not overwhelming. I don't know, it's just a place where it seems like everything is nice, and thought has gone in to making sure everything is nice and interesting, and that the whole experience comes together as something pleasant and nice, and I appreciate that. Not just childhood nostalgia, either, I've been back relatively recently and still enjoyed it immensely. Never been to Disney World, though.

Sorry. Not to step on you for disliking it. I just like it a lot and I guess I wanted to talk about that.

I'm totally with you re: Disney World/Land. I've been to both and while I *(mostly) had fun as a kid I have no desire to go back as an adult.

Actually, I went to Disney World in the spring (for the first time, at age 24), and a lot of the line waits were significantly shorter than at the tiny-ass amusement park we have at home. Like, I think I only waited around an hour's time for a ride once? Mostly the lines went a lot faster. Like 15-30minutes or something. I'm bad with remembering time frames. But yeah, Disney was nothing if not incredibly efficient and bizarrely clean. And then because we were staying at a resort we got special access hours, and then the lines were basically non-existent. NIGH INSTANT ACCESS. I went on the Tower of Terror soooo many times.

Probably still overrated, though, but I found it overall a very enjoyable week. Other than the day I spent puking up everything.

I've been to Disneyland once and Disney World once. I guess I'm glad to have had the experiences, but I won't feel disappointed if I never go back.

Meanwhile, two of my coworkers frequently talk about their near-annual trips to DW. And it's not like we're in the area; we're outside Boston. I think one of them even bought a timeshare or something. I don't get why they're both so obsessed.
