That's kinda normal? I mean, when I wrote fic, I checked to see if people had viewed it recently on ff.net. On LJ I looked at what stories got more or less reviews then mine did. I think it's natural to want to know where you're fic stands in relation to other people's work. As long as you're not flaming people who did better than you, you don't have to worry about it.

and so long as you don't confuse "your" with "you're" in your fics, or people will point and laugh and not rec you. One hopes.

No.

Yeah, I see that I did that. No need to be snarky. It's a small mistake. I do know the difference.

Actually, no. People rec fics with SPaG mistakes all the time, especially in the bigger fandoms. Hell, half of these readers can't tell the difference themselves.

SpAG? There's an acronym for it now? Fandom really does have jargon for everything.

It's not a fandom acronym? Just "Spelling, Punctuation, and Grammar".

I can see what it stands for (though I parsed it "Spelling and Grammar," admittedly). But fandom has a propensity for a] giving everything a jargon name and b] making lots of acronyms. And given that I've never seen this acronym anywhere else, ever, are you sure it isn't a fandom thing? A fandom thing about grammar, but a fandom thing nevertheless. (I'm not trying to be snarky here, I'm genuinely asking.)

Frankly, I'm clueless as to where it originated, but it is definitely used in non-fandom circles - rarely used, that much is true. I tried googling, but there's little information on etymology.

I find it really helpful because I hate using the word "grammar" incorrectly, and all the other alternatives are über long.

Unless one of my university professors is in fandom (though she wouldn't be the only one, so who knows) it's not a fandom thing. She uses SPaG in informal email exchanges.

It's not a fandom thing, I was taught SPaG in school two decades ago. I'm British, so maybe it's regional.
