This is what I hate about Tumblr. It's an endless narcissistic parade and people are popular for REBLOGGING, not even for creating original content. The difficulty to reply or discuss anything is batshit insane. Some people create beautiful things on Tumblr but in the main, it's fandom at its laziest and that makes me sad.

Very true

A lot of images are great, and the gifs are the best, but you see the same image over and over on your dashboard. And some people actually get pissed if you comment on them and start wank with that.

A lot of people create original content and they usually are the most popular, see popular fanartists. (All that content people reblog is coming from somewhere, you know.) And then there's well-curated specialized content tumblrs like fuckyeahillustrativeart etc but I don't count those as people and I don't think getting a feed of things that interest me is ZOMG NARCISSISM either.

I agree.

Yeah, I tend to reblog more than I create content, but I like my blog to be a repository of the quality stuff my fandom creates, all tagged and sourced properly. I didn't know that was equivalent of being narcisistic.

This is my main beef with Tumblr.

Are you kidding me? Do have any idea how many artists are on tumblr and create beautiful pieces of original work that are hugely popular? Or the sheer amount of tumblrs dedicated to references or drawing tips or tutorials? The artist community on tumblr is massive with craptons of original content. You just need to actually look for it.

I suspect most tumblr haters on lj are writers who are somehow upset that tumblr isn't primarily a writing community but rather for sharing all sorts of content and popular for that so they decided to hate it and then defend that decision by spreading rumours about things they've heard from other people who don't actually have an account or know how to use the platform to their benefit either.

I hate it because I can't have conversations with people without going somewhere else to do it, and all the people I used to have conversations with moved to tumblr. I still wouldn't be happy if tumblr died, though, because I know a lot of people who love it.

...Not really. If all you do is reblog, then you get no one really following you.

You can get threads of discussion going that's slightly awkward, sure, but hardly batshit insane levels.

As for laziness, well, it's people using free time, so I don't see why everyone needs to create beautiful things. Without the pressure to perform, some people do silly, if not beautiful, things, which frankly I prefer to their having anxiety about it.
