handedness

Somehow, I always, ALWAYS reverse directions in m mental image vs. the book description. So if the book character gets shot in the leg, three pages later it's described as his left leg and I realize I was picturing his right. IF a character has a flower tucked behind one ear, it turns out being her right ear and I was thinking of left. Situations, too; if there's a table to one side of the bed and a window on the other, it's always opposite of what I pictured. It's like a superpower.

Also pretty much all the teachers in Harry Potter. Different from movies too. Harry is such a freakin' unreliable narrator, with a 'eww old people' factor as well as a 'wizards are weird' factor, I always assume they're actually not bad-looking people. Minerva for example I always thought was really beautiful, although past her prime. (not that I'm DiLPing Snape or anything)

I'm pretty thoroughly right handed (sometimes I have trouble even holding things well with my left), but I do that, too. I'm actually pretty consistent about swapping right and left and east and west, even IRL.

I don't remember McGonagall being described as ugly ('stern', yes, 'ugly', no)....or any of the teachers except for Snape and Mad-eye (and Umbridge when she takes over) - several of the others, of course, got various types of 'weird', but that's as far as I remember any of the descriptions going on them. Hell, even Slughorn seems to be offputting entirely because of his personality, not his looks.
