Re: Does your mental image of characters ever stubbornly refuse to match their description?

When I read, everyone typically ends up with "Generic Appearance" unless something about the voice reminds me of a particular actor or character (hence: my mental casting of Antigone with West Wing characters), so I guess that counts as not always matching up.

But I have to wonder if a lot of people have that problem of not being able to make their mental image wash with the canon description - or, in the case of the guy in my icon, his actual appearance. You would not believe how many fics I've read that describe Castle's Kevin Ryan as blond. BLOND. I can kind of see a case for saying Castle is dark blond/light brown, but Ryan clearly has dark brown, likely never blond even in youth, hair. (In fact, Seamus Dever has a baby picture on twitter, and yeah. Still not blond.)

It's been a long time, but the ones I remember clearly are:

Antigone - Allison Janney (CJ Cregg)
Pretty sure this one came to mind from "Go away, Ismene. I shall be hating you soon"

Creon - Jed Bartlet (Martin Sheen)
Just something in the voice. Plus, king and president.

Ismene - Donna Moss (Janel Moloney)
Fits the physical description, and personality too, if I'm remembering right. And was one of few options, once I started down this head trip.

Then I think I maybe kind of rotated Leo and Toby around for the Chorus...I may have to re-read this and figure it all out again.

(Sorry for all the edits. I couldn't let a to/too/two error stand.)

I've never seen much of The West Wing, but I just wanted to tell you how pleasantly surprised I was to see Antigone come up in conversation.

I have fond memories of that play because it was the first I was a part of in high school. I also came to really enjoy the text.

This is awesomesauce. And oh yes, the "I shall hating you soon" = vintage Janney.

Blond/e appears to be a weird thing for some people. My best friend has dark chestnut brown hair, but when she dropped in on me at work a while back the coworker who came to the breakroom to fetch me told me that a blonde girl was looking for me.
