...okay, wow.

HOW do I turn this thing off? I don't even see an option to do so.

I just found out how to turn off the share button. I had to google it because LJ hid it that well.

Go into your profile and hover your mouse over the word "profile" to get the drop down menu, then click "settings".

One of the first lines on that page is: "You can edit your account settings below. You may also want to edit your profile or your journal style".

Click on the link "journal style", then choose "customize your theme" (right half of the page, near the top).

There's a sub menu, on the left, on that page. Choose "entry text".

There's a line that says "Text to share this with a friend". Whatever text is in that box (mine said "share"), remove it and leave it blank, then save your changes.

That turned it off totally for me, including on my public posts.

I did what you suggest, but found that it left a small blank space, and that if I clicked exactly in between Add to Memories and Track This, I could still use the link. :O

That must be what the LJ volunteer who spoke to Kaffyr meant. Grrr - that's infuriating!
