other than all the news articles specifically using romani i can't give you sources. i just know it from living around them my whole life. i don't have a url for that.

no roma person i have ever interacted with has ever stated such and i have not seen a single account of this elsewhere. even a net search isn't helping. i don't think you know what you're talking about.

eta: you might have heard that some romanies prefer to not be called roma, since traditionally roma refers to a certain subgroup of romani people, but roma as a term has taken on a dual meaning and, as i said, more recently has been used interchangeably with romani. them not being synonymous is viewed as an outdated viewpoint. i'll look into it though since i don't want to offend anybody by referring to them by something they dislike.

DA
Just because the people you've interacted with are polite enough not to call you on your ill-manners, doesn't mean they're not insulted by your language/behavior. And one person, or even a half dozen people, putting up with you does not universal approval make.

Since you're not a member of the group by your own admission, I don't think anyone has to take your word for it and do as you'd like. Also, you may believe that language has changed. And, maybe in the dictionaries it has, but that doesn't mean the population itself has accepted your position/definition.

i'm not requesting that people take my word for it but i sure as heck am not going to take others' word for it without evidence, because this seems more to me like an attempt to shoot me down rather than correct me on actual offensive gestures. nobody has bothered to provide a source or evidence or anything that would help me educate myself on what you are calling a slur (roma), and it's one thing to be better safe than sorry but another thing entirely to blindly listen to everything people tell you, which you have argued against right here in your comment, so i'm hoping my point of view on the matter is understandable and justified in your eyes.
