They have so many issues and can't be rational about each other. So, while I'd like to set some growth in horrible, brotherly co-dependancy department, at least Dean's choice to keep Ezekiel's involvement a secret is consistent and makes sense where his character is determined. Dean's learned a lot and has changed in some ways, but when it comes to Sam, he's still pretty much the same.

I do feel Dean has a good reason to keep the whole Ezechiel thing from Sam, but it still felt forced to me. Like they did it so Dean would have conflict with Sam instead of actually fitting into the story.
