IDK, I don't like death threats/wishes (regardless of party) and blanket statements about race/gender/orientation. I'll usually speak up about those since they're pretty bottom-line human decency, and as long as I don't 'push it' push it, the person I'm talking to will admit 'I guess you're right, but..." if not take back their statement completely.

I have opinions on a lot of political things, but only usually share them if invited/feel the person is actually open to discussing an issue, not just blathering on about their side and their side alone. I don't mind if someone says they don't have an opinion on political stuff; I guess it can be a little disappointing sometimes? Especially since a lot of people I know who say they aren't interested in politics actually DO have strong opinions on abortion/gay rights/etc, and I'm like "hello? that's political? you don't get to have it both ways."

But... yeah.

I don't really see gay rights as a political thing, though. To me that's like saying "black people deserve the same rights as white people" is a political opinion. It's not about politics, it's about human decency.

Yes, it's human decency. But given the amount of political discourse and legislation surrounding it these days, I don't see why it can't be both.
