I was so sad when the Daedalus arrived. It could have been such an awesome abandoned in a strange galaxy type of show.

They'd just written themselves too far into a corner by ramping up the Wraith hive-fleet threat that there was no way to resolve it without a deus-ex of some sort. I guess that they'd gotten the CG Models for the cool space ships over on SG1 so they figured they might as well use those. It did suck though, being cut off in a galaxy of nightmares and only the second rung in the food chain would have been a truly awesome show to watch too.

I do love the show, but agree that it would have been worlds better if they'd stayed cut off from Earth. But with these writers, who knows? They tried it with SGU and kept going back to Earth using those damned rape-stones.

Earth is just boring in Stargate. Actually, in any sci-fi series Earth is a boring planet or boring people, too many of whom still think a digital watch is pretty neat.

If the audience wanted Earth-based stories filled with angst then there are a million soaps (or NCIS) to watch instead.

Love the "rape-stones" though. God, even those were under-used though.

Can I just randomly offer some love for the HHGG reference?

I KNOW RIGHT. Forever sad that they got back in touch with Earth.
