There's this fic I liked with a nice plot nobody had used before or after, and that I think has some very nice moments and character development. I wrote that in a post and the author answered "I wish people stop liking my fic, it's awful", and I felt embarrased to like something that I made me genuinely happy. It kinda soured that fic and its author for me, which is a shame, really...

What an ass.

I wish I could find the post in which Ursula Vernon and various commenters said it more eloquently than I could, but she had a great bit about the importance of accepting compliments graciously. Someone liking your work is not about you, it's about them.
