this. the thing that sucked about lj was that there was no good way to search all of lj for specific content. you had to be following the community to see stuff that was posted, and sometimes fandoms would have more than one comm and people wouldn't always crosspost (or they just posted to their personal journals instead of comms), so if you only really tracked one fandom comm you could miss out on things.

with tumblr, i can search a tag and find everything related to that fandom right there. i don't have to be following the right people or watching the right comms to get all of the good stuff.

To me that's actually more of a down side of Tumblr. Looking through tags means you're flooded with endless reblogs of the same things and have to sort through way more irrelevant content to get actual news. Same with twitter.
Quite frankly, I don't have that much time to devote to my fandoms, or I wouldn't get anything done.

Thankfully, there are still a few fandom boards to stay up to date, and one LJ community for one of my fandoms... except that community is in Russian. But still, it's posting alll the news. And Google translate does the rest.
Though of course, I can't engage in conversations on that one.

Reblogs don't get listed in the tags at all though? Did you mean people *posting* the same content?

There is an epidemic of people reposting the same things on Tumblr. Check any of the popular tags, no matter how random they may be, and you'll see the same images over and over again.
