My fanfic writing abilities are horrible. ;_; I can write a research paper like nobodies business. But fiction just isn't my forte. I wrote one WoW fic. And that was all my writing ability forever.

I loved those shows (and all the others Big Earth did - Race to Dakar, By Any Means & Murder or Mutiny) but I'm not such a fan of Charley. Now, the producer/director, Russ Malkin... (Hidden away on my hard drive never to see the light of day may be some appalling Russ/Charley slash)

Original poster here. Why no like Charley? Is it the looks or the personality? ;-) (I don't like Ewan's wife Eve, so I can't complain, I guess)

Mmmmm, looks like a single pathetic but lengthy series of Ewan/Charley B./Olly B. has crept onto my computer somehow and appears to be growing. I've no idea HOW. Nope.

Russ is OK. So is Claudio. Not that I have any evil ideas about Claudio. *tries to look innocent*

I need to get Race to Dakar and maybe some of those others. I wish they'd do "Long Way Up." But without Eve. :p

Well part of it is that it's not a hugely known show/fandom. Then aren't they both married with families? Not that that ever stops the shippers, but it is a factor.

Long Way Round was such a great film. Never got around to reading the book, but I found the movie incredibly motivating. Hopefully some day I can have my own travel buddy and some such adventure.

And sorry, I don't ship them. Mostly because I don't do RPS. :(

The family issue is one that'll be argued until the end of time, but in the end, RPS is all fiction anyway...

Gah these guys. Funny story - I was couchsurfing in Iowa with this older couple and got stuck there for longer than I had originally planned (crazy weather, couldn't get out, they invited me to stay) and to pass the time they showed me an episode or two of Long Way Round. I was hooked. We eventually went back and started from the beginning and finished it before I had to leave. Watching it was such a mix of jealousy and joy. And it made me think about the fun of a motorbike trip, which is not a mode of travel I had ever considered.

So yeah, Long Way Round will always have a special place in my memory both for the fun of the actual show, but in how it entered my life. Though I had no idea there was a fandom!

Love this show -- LOVE IT. It actually kind of got me into my current career when I was feeling really stuck in my old one. And I think Ewan is completely adorable and Charley is dead hot sexy.

Dunno why I don't ship them, though, since I ship just about every single other major Bromance I come across, but they are the one bromance that actually reads as totally heterosexual to me. Maybe it's because Ewan is really obviously so open and in touch with his sexuality that there's no weird subtext for me to perv out on?

I know! Even Claudio was shipping them in LWR. And in LWD Charley was definitely peeved about Ewan's wife wanting in...

I've seen Ewan/Jude Law, but no Ewan/Charley, alas. :(

A few reasons:

1) Yes, I don't find Charley attractive.
2) But that is mostly because he regularly behaves like an asshole.
3) Ewan MacGregor strikes me as being quite straight. I realize this doesn't discourage slashfic fans at all, but I don't like imposing a new sexuality on someone (esp. a real person) for my own titillation.
4) Platonic love is awesome and I like that two men can be so close to one another and yet perfectly secure that it's okay for two straight guys to love one another.

Charley doesn't seem particularly asshole-ish to me, at least not more than most men, but YMMV. *shrug*
