Words you have trouble saying?

[personal profile] fingalsanteater 2013-10-23 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
They changed the name of one the agencies I refer to a lot in my job to Bureau [of such and such]. It has an abbreviation, but when I refer customers to it I have say the whole name. Except that I find Bureau an incredibly cumbersome word and very difficult to say. I feel like I need to practice saying it so I don't say it weird when I'm at work.

I say -olf words like "wolf" or "golf" as "woof" and "gawf" because the L is really really weird and difficult for me to get in there.

What about you guys?

Not really trouble so much as when I see any foreign word with an r in it I say it like it's spanish/japanese even if it's say, polish :/.

Mmmmm, I'm kind of a freak-- I speak a bunch of different languages, and I've never had problems producing the different sounds needed. Even vastly different ones from my native tongue, like the "kh" or "gh" in Arabic.

But recently, I've been having some health problems that produces temporary neurological deficits, including speech problems. So I've been shorting out on completely simple words, and slurring. :/

Rogue, hue, and the name Joan. There are a couple of other sounds that I trip over (I think that I might have a slight stutter), but those are the words that immediately come to mind.

I apparently pronounce the word "room" like "rum", which I guess is weird. I don't really notice I'm doing it though.

A lot. I have a stutter (I have learn to hide it so most people don't even know unless I get excited/frustrated) and I used to switch the ways you are supposed to pronounce S and TH (I took speech for that). I think one of my big ones is mattresses. FUCK THAT WORD.

When I'm stressed or talking really fast my Ss tend to become THs. "Yeth, thir." Thupid lithp.

Also, I'm learning Korean, and they have double letters; like, 'bang' means 'room' while 'bbang' means 'bread'. You have to kinda...idk, almost spit out the doubles, like you're mad at them, and I never say them right.

any long "i" sound comes out as "ah." for instance, like is lahk, my is mah, etc. some people have asked me if I ever lived in the south, which I haven't. it's a mystery.
