(Anonymous) 2013-10-23 05:50 am (UTC)(link)So I can see how someone watching without a text readout could just as easily assume 'leftenant' was one of those archaic Ichabod words (like 'charwoman') that they hadn't previously been familiar with, instead of just a different pronunciation of the same word.
And yes, it could always be eye dialect. Which I'm not really a fan of, but it's not uncommon either. It has its uses; some people feel it immerses them in the story, some feel it's disruptive. No one's taste is really wrong. (And with a long fic, if it's bothering you that much, it's easily solved by find-and-replace.)
