Did Ms. Marvel have her own comic, or is the current Captain Marvel run her first comic, or what? Comics so confusing I was under the impression that the Ms. Marvel comic was changed to Captain Marvel so that it's the same character, different superhero title, but Google tells me this is wrong...? IDK

Carol Danvers was originally supporting cast in Captain Marvel in the mid-late 60s. (The one with the alien called Mar-Vell, not the kid who yells SHAZAM!) She then got powers of her own and became Ms. Marvel and got her own comic which lasted for a few years in the 70s. There's "Essential Ms. Marvel" collections which collect that run in black and white. She also joined the Avengers and was a long-tenured member of that team for most of the 70s.

Late 70s/early 80s, Rogue drained her powers, and a powerless Carol left the Avengers and became X-Men supporting cast for a few years, before going off into space and becoming the cosmic star-powered heroine Binary.

In the mid/late 90s, Carol returned to Earth and rejoined the Avengers as Warbird, becoming a mainstay in that title and supporting cast in Iron Man for a while.

In the 00s, Carol got her own title again as Ms. Marvel after the "House of M" alternate universe storyline. That book lasted a few years as well, but was canceled. She was still an Avenger the entire time though.

About a year and some change ago, Carol took on the identity of Captain Marvel in honor of her dead friend, after yet another time travel adventure with pre-death him, and has her own book which is still ongoing. It's fun but uneven. And the art has been hit or miss. :( She's still an Avenger as well.
