...it wasn't an entirely serious comment. Way to be a buzzkill.

But if you want to be serious, about it: think about space efficiency. Yes, flying/hovering cars present safety issues (though I'm sure many could be surmounted with the appropriate technology). But we have huge space issues on Earth and one way to alleviate those issues in urban areas would be multi-level parking "lots" where you can park your flying car. And don't tell me those are the same as parking garages. They're not because parking garages have a lot of space taken up by the "road" section, and they couldn't be built as tall. How cool would it be to have an apartment and park your hovercar right outside the door on the tenth floor?
