I have always liked Hanson. A friend of mine is super obsessed with them, and so I've continued to listen to their music from time to time. "Crazy Beautiful" is an awesome song.

Hanson's latest album was a mostly solid, if kind of forgettable, rock album. They don't get enough credit for keeping on trucking.

Is Anthem good? I've only heard the minute or so previews that Amazon does, and I'm not sure I'm impressed enough to buy it. Of their more recent albums (because it's really not fair to compare new stuff to Middle of Nowhere anymore), some of my favorite songs are:

Underneath is probably the most iffy album for me (though it has a few songs I really love), and I honestly think Zac may have grown to have the better voice between him and Taylor (but I've always been an Ike fan). Do you think I'd be pleased with Anthem, and just don't know it?

If you are in the US, you can download Spotify and listen to the entire album free. (With ads, which are annoying, but if you want to get a full listen legally before purchasing, it'd be my suggestion. You could also check Youtube for the tracks; people usually post them with new albums.)

Sounds like Kevin (the oldest one) maybe wants them to grow up a bit. He's the only one who hasn't commented on personal twitters while a publicist says there's "a deep rift within the band" over their music direction. Their tour was canceled TWO DAYS before it was set to start.

I think if the label drama that happened to Hanson in 2000 didn't cause them to break up, then nothing will. It also shows a dedication to making their music that they put their money back into the band (by creating their own label). But I guess when you make more money than a small country before you enter high school, you can do that sort of thing.

Never followed the JB but I had thought they had already broken up to do their own projects years ago.

I haven't heard anything on Anthem and really haven't bought an album since Underneath. I hated The Walk so much, and I forgot to get Shout it Out. Thinkin' Bout Something is pretty much my favorite song of theirs since Lost Without Each Other, though, so IDK why I didn't get Shout it Out.

A friend of mine says it's fairly meh, but she also hated The Walk like I did.

I kinda liked The Walk (or at least, I liked a few songs quite a lot and didn't hate most of the rest). Maybe I'll see if Anthem pops up for cheap somewhere sometime.

Lost Without Each Other is one of my all-time favorite Hanson songs!

I highly recommend Shout It Out. Anthem is pretty good, if a bit forgettable, but imo, Shout It Out is better than both The Walk and Anthem. But this is coming from somebody who probably loves This Time Around and Underneath more than any of their other albums, so YMMV

I'm actually quite a fan of both and I'll be sorely disappointed if JB throw in the towel completely, though I'd be also be surprised if they do. V was shaping up to be a good album and I think it deserves to be released, if they can manage it. I think a rebranding of the band, maybe some rework on their image - which they were actually starting to do - is more likely.

The way they've handled this whole situation has been disappointing, though.

Frankly I thought JB had broken up until recently.

Echoing the sentiment that Anthem is just kinda so-so. I love TTA and Underneath, but haaaaated almost everything on The Walk except maybe Great Divide and Georgia. Shout It Out had some good singles but was also not an exciting album overall. For as much as I have been a life-long Hanson fan, I have trouble getting into a lot of their new music. And I've never been into most Zac or Ike songs, so I skip those tracks half the time anyway-- not ashamed to say that even 16 years later, I'm still a "Taylor girl".

That said, I've got tickets to see them in like three weeks so at least I'm still throwing money at them and will buy a few cases of MMMHops if they can bring it across the border.
