The point where fandom is the only thing in someone's life, I'm concerned.

I'm very involved with fandom...and I've never seen this. Just because people don't like to mix their personal life and fandom lives doesn't mean they don't have a life. I still have my kids, my husband, work to do, and bills to pay, even if I am writing 3k - 5k of fandom everyday and chatting with my friends about it on the phone.

I think it would be opposite really that I would be concerned about. If all you had was work and more and more responsibilities without anything like fandom to keep your life fun.

Everyone has school, work, and responsibility; they are inescapable. It is their own choice as to whether or not they talk about them.

I meant to the point where they neglect their kids, husband, work, bills, can't talk about anything but fandom, ect. You're probably fine.

Is this something that actually happens?

If someone's neglecting their kids or work I'm going to assume there are other factors at play and would just crop up as an escape route, not the cause.

I've seen it happen... when we found out we were all stunned as we had no idea and she was always doing nice things for people in the fandom. She eventually went to prison for child neglect :(
