fic uploading etiquette

(Anonymous) 2013-10-24 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
Ugh, I've been uploading a backlog of stuff to AO3, and I try to NOT fill up the front page of a fandom with all my stuff. I spread it out a bit, and that's part of the reason it's taken me so long to do it.

But I swear, for one of my fandoms literally HALF of the fics on the front page are by the same two people. I want to get a few more titles between my last fic and my next one, but I think if one of them is ever about to be pushed off the front page, I won't hesitate to be the one who does it. But I still don't plan on having more than two fics of mine on page one at a time.

Is there an etiquette for this sort of thing that I'm just woefully ignorant to?

this....is not something i have ever thought about at all. or thought other people thought about lol. is there really etiquette to uploading on AO3? i mean of course if you put up like 10 fics back to back i can see that being a problem. but is this something part of AO3 culture? i'm intrigued.

Probably several and some people even care about them.

I don't think there's an etiquette so much as maybe a strategy. After all, lots o'reviews is generally the goal, and if you upload a whole bunch of stuff at once, people are more likely to get you-fatigue. But I don't think anyone's going to think of you as rude for it.

Depends on what they're actually uploading. People get pissed if you post like drabble after drabble in their own file, but if they're fully formed stories of multi-chapters or thousands of words, no one really cares.

I consider it polite not to spam the front page, but there are other people who don't care. It's up to you--people will just AO3 savior you if you annoy them.

Waitwaitwait is AO3 saviour a real thing? If it is, where can I get it? There is this one author who makes me see red every time I so much as see her name and, unfortunately, she's hugely popular in my fandom and posts fics all the time so I can barely check the fandom's tag without seeing something of hers and getting mad. If I could just stop her from appearing on the main page every time I go to look for fics, my whole fandom experience would be improved 1000%.

Here you go. You need Greasemonkey (Firefox) or Tampermonkey (Google Chrome), but it works like a dream otherwise and it's really simple. :)

This is exactly why I haven't posted all my fics (or any, in one case) from most of my fandoms on AO3. I WRITE TOO MANY FICS. And not like, drabbles, either. I'm afraid of showing up and immediately wearing out my welcome, if I suddenly double the number of fics in a given fandom. :P

Well... thank you. Because I have come across walls of authors I don't like sometimes and it's just really annoying. Funnily enough, I haven't had it happen with authors I do like. Weird.

Maybe you could bump it up to three instead of two though?
