fandom tl;dr is embarrassing and stupid in general. and if you're one of those people who are writing tl;dr essays and recaps of shit like Sleepy Hollow, then you're super embarrassing. Sorry.

Oh dear. To me, fanvids and badly drawn smut is embarrassing. (But I know that's MY view and squicks.) To me tl;dr is usually just a word vomit of enthusiasm and intellect, that doesn't take up much time, and doesn't require mega investment in fanfic, shipwars, etc etc.

but why are you so embarrassed about your own hobby? why is it shameful? what aspects of it do you feel are stupid and embarrassing?

what is a hobby you don't consider stupid and embarrassing? does every hobby have to be "productive" in the sense that it makes money (in which case, it's a job and not a hobby) or promotes health in order to be a "good/smart" way of spending time?

i'm genuinely curious.
