Re: What Mythological Creature or Animal Were You Obsessed With as a Child?

Mine was mermaids and unicorns!

I would trek into the big woods across the street from my house looking for unicorns, and I was convinced there was a swamp unicorn or something living there, and I just had to be persistent in finding it and being friends with it. (The swamp unicorn had kudzu vines for a mane and tail, a horn that looked like a branch, and it was dappled dark green and brown. It was a master of camouflage, you see. That was why I never found it.)

In my spare time away from swamp unicorn hunts, my best friend at the time (about third grade) and I would make up magic spells trying to turn us into mermaids, or fantasizing about how we would totally turn into mermaids at sixteen because CLEARLY we were just cursed by bad guys keeping us away from our true beauty and grace as mermaids. (We were weird children.) On the bright side, these fantasies kept me fit, because I swam a lot as a child; that friend had a pool in her backyard and we'd spend entire weekends out there practicing our swimming for when we turned into mermaids, hahahaha XD
