Things that are really getting under your skin right now

An old friend of mine has this horrible, broken way of attaching to crushes--she will change everything (up to and including her gender identity??) to suit the tastes of the person she has a crush on, weasels her way in, "dates" them for a little while, and then invariably there's a huge epic meltdown and lines are drawn in the sand, mutual friends get torn in one direction or another, and some of these people have been really hurt.

She somewhat recently cut me out of her life (for unrelated reasons), but out of curiosity I went to see her Tumblr to see how she's doing/what she's into now, and I see she's been up to the same old shit and literally just had a huge messy breakup with another girl, who's pretty shattered over it.

Would it be totally out-of-bounds to send a message to this girl and tell her it's not her fault and that this was just another notch on a horribly sociopathic bedpost, or would that just make her feel worse? God, I swear, if I could, I'd warn every single person this old friend of mine starts to take a shine to.

I don't think it'd be totally out of line. I dated someone a few years ago who was incredibly manipulative and abusive. (It was something I should have seen coming, in hindsight, because this girl had like no friends left at all and most of the people who knew her in our fandoms hated her. She always said it was just them being bullies, but now I know better.) Eventually we broke it off and I cut her out of my life, but it was really rough.

A few months after we broke up I got a message from a (distant) mutual acquaintance, and he explained that basically I was not the first person this girl had done this to. That she'd changed the name she was using several times and every few months would find someone new to harass. It was actually really nice to get confirmation that it wasn't just me being paranoid, and that she really was fucked up.

You're not friends with the girl anymore. I can't think of a reason not to. Just maybe ask them to keep the conversation private?

I'd wait a while before doing it, and not do it at all if it isn't someone you've met before. Otherwise you're a stranger, and for a lot of people it would be both kind of creepy - and leave them feeling pretty nasty.
