However I just don't see the point in getting all worked up about a sexist line here or an off-color portrayal of a disabled character there in things made 20-30 years ago. Like I make note of it, catalog it, but the thing I'm watching isn't exactly in public conscious anymore. And that doesn't even begin to take into consideration the external factors.
Like first season of the new Doctor Who, the companion Rose has a line saying "That's so gay."
1) It's one line.
2) It's from something that's over 8 years old now.
3) The writer who wrote it is gay himself.
So what am I supposed to do? Think 'OMG that line was so wrong' every time I watch it? Accuse RTD of 'internalized homophobia'? The critical thinking is there I guess, but without some end goal/cause to drive it to, it sort of drifts slowly to the ground and poofs into dust.
