Yep, pretty much. I actually find it really frustrating because I find lately a whole lot of people are like "Omg, I'm not stereotypically male/female, I must be trans*/Genderqueer/genderfluid" without sitting back and thinking about just how sexist it is for people to go "Lol, I don't like shoes/make-up/shopping so I must not be a woman"/"I don't like sports/cars so I must not be a man."

I realize a lot of people who identify as the above don't believe that sort of thing, but I've definitely had genderqueer friends be like "I got a new computer! Now I know how women feel about shoes" and I stare at them like "Uhm, I own like, three pairs of shoes. Including my winter shoes."

...shit. I have many feelings about this. Given my own relationship with my body and gender.

I don't mean to offend anyone. =) I totally get that a lot of trans*/non-binary people actually are, truly, trans*/non-binary. For some people it just feels akin to someone being "Omg, I think Angelina Jolie/Johnny Depp is attractive, I must totally be a lesbian/gay."

Oh, I was agreeing you. I've struggled with wondering if I'm non-binary for ages, comparing myself to non-cis friends. But the other objection I've had is that I think I might be gender essentialising myself, and that's what I'm leaning towards atm (while feeling conflicted), and it's just... depressing reading about genderqueer-identifying people saying ridiculous shit like that.

I'm NOT thinking this is all genderqueer people - but I have the suspicion that for some tumblr types, if they received even a tenth of the shit that some genderqueer people receive IRL in less supportive close-knit-inner-city-or-online-community environments, they might not be so keen on the identity.
