It is awkward but sometimes, as in everything in life, just because you like the same fandom or like fannish things doesn't mean you'll all do so in the same way. I like poetry but I'm sure that some of my equally poetry-loving companions think I am sad/ridiculous to preferring Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats to The Waste Land and liking Sassoon and Kipling over Carol Ann-Duffy any day.

At the same time although I do try and get on with everyone in fandom there are some people who you just feel the need to stay away from. I wouldn't openly insult them I don't think for the most part but certainly in my early (and more active) days in fandom there was an author who I thought was a very nice person but her stories were really kind of creepy at times. And not creepy in a good/intentional way but like THESE ARE REAL PEOPLE BUT I AM CONVINCED THEY WERE EVEN FEELING EACH OTHER UP WHEN THEY WERE TODDLERS. AND WOE BETIDE ANYONE WHO SUGGESTS OTHERWISE.

And then you just need to edge away, or if worst comes to the worse feel compelled to point out YES I LIKE THIS FANDOM BUT I AM NOT LIKE THAT CRAZY PERSON THERE.
