Maybe because Eska is creepy as fuck and she makes me so damn uncomfortable?

It's one thing to have a very sexually liberated female character or one who is a bit more dominant in the relationship, but this pair? they've known each other for what...5 days at most and she's suddenly, "WE'LL MARRY" and is all "HOW DARE YOU TALK TO OR EVEN HUG ANOTHER WOMAN."

she didn't even make a distinction between "boyfriend" and "slave."

Plus, the person who voices her plays a TON of characters and roles that make me grit my teeth in hate. I can't stand those kind of people IRL and I can't stand them in fiction.

Just...ugh.

I can't see the love for the twins, mainly Eska. Her brother is low on my radar.

Oh gosh, ALL OF THIS. I keep seeing lots of people talk about how "hilarious" Bolin and Eska's relationship was, but to me it came across as nothing short of abusive. I mean, Eska was physically violent towards Bolin--she threatened him and made him afraid for his life. He came to Korra in tears and begged for her help ending things with Eska, but it was all just laughed off like, "Oh, Bolin, what shenanigans have you gotten yourself into now?"

The whole thing is just super creepy and reeks of double standards. If a male character was treating a female character the way Eska treats Bolin, the fandom would be up in arms--and rightfully so. Eska and her entire dominance over Bolin makes me wicked uncomfortable, and I'm glad that I'm not the only one.

It made me uncomfortable. I don't get how abuse is funny at all, no matter who the gender is. It just makes me feel bad for them and gives me so many negative feelings. I mean it's one thing if it were played seriously...but as comedy? Nope.

See, I don't follow LoK, but the way fandom has described Eska, I'm willing to give it a chance. She sounds like the kind of character I would crush on.

what you mean a less kinky Christian Grey in female form?

Ooooookay then.

Yeah, when I saw people found it funny, it was the first time I actually understood the whole "were we watching the same show?" thing. Christ, it's set up like a relationship that's going to end with someone dead.

I think it could've been funny if it had ended shortly after the fair, or maybe after the trip to the spirit forest. It certainly shouldn't have gone on as long as it did.

It emphatically stopped being anything that could sort of be funny when Bolin came to his friends and brother and asked for help getting out of an abusive relationship and got laughed at and told to handle it on his own. How did no one on the writing team catch how not okay that was?!

And in an example of second season writing everyone but the bad guys as dumber than a box of rocks, you Bolin goes on to sexually harass Ginger. It's like a multi-episode Scooby Doo, with creepy relationship dynamics.

Ugh, right? He was my favorite character in season 1 (right after Asami, maybe). But kissing a chained-up woman who can't get away and keeps trying to get away from you? The "joke" that he's too dumb to understand acting is just too stupid to live.

I miss Sokka. He was dorky and had dumb moments, but he wasn't a legitimately stupid character trying to pass off stupidity for humor.

I'm kinda glad to find out I'm not the only one with a huge problem regarding them. Like, I can see the bit where it was supposed to be a joke, but...Eek? Horrible? Scary? Unpleasant? Abusive?

Just so much no.
