That really sucks. I do wonder like some of the other commenters if the tree was unhealthy; my folks had to have a number of trees on both their property and that which we're renting after they suffered some nasty damage from the storm. They looked perfectly fine and healthy to me, but Tree Dude who came out and surveyed said they were unhealthy in the core and likely to fall... so we've lost some of our pretty trees too. :(

(They didn't remove the stumps either. It's a fucking mess, and depressing as hell when I look out at the backyard and see the lines of seven or eight stumps, so I really sympathize on that score.)

That does suck. I don't even fully trust arborists to be right about diseased trees anymore, ever since one that we hired told us one of our trees was infested with emerald ash borer and needed to come down.

It was a tulip poplar.
