Oh my. A Mink secret. That's new.

Personally? Mink's route was the first I finished. I absolutely do NOT condone any of his actions or excuse them, but he's still one of my favourite characters in the game.

I don't follow the fandom that much, though everyone I've seen openly admitting they like Mink has also made it clear they don't condone their actions? It's not like you can't like the character and dislike what he's done at the same time.

Not saying that what he did wasn't wrong, because it was. It was wrong and horrible. Still, the fangirl in me squealed with delight at the re:connect route and how him and Aoba wound up working out.

/2 cents

Unrelated-ish but for some reason it always has me thinking why exactly most of the fandom appears to loathe Mink and adore Virus/Trip when they do shit that's just as twisted/awful/horrible...

idk where you hang out but mink apologists are a lot easier to come by than people who excuse what virus and trip did to aoba.

people like virus and trip and KNOW they're villains. people like mink and try to find ways around the fact that he repeatedly rapes aoba. then the game suggests in re:connect that it was okay because mink had a tough life okay and he is just misunderstood. a lot of the fandom agrees with this.

Mostly tumblr and I don't actually follow many blogs. Can't excuse the fandom if that's the case, but most people I've personally seen sharing their subjects on Mink don't condone his actions. Same with me.

I don't like Virus/Trip much so I wouldn't know much more than what I hear/see in my corner of the fandom.

I literally have no idea what this series is about, but it has an A+ name.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-25 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a visual novel called DRAMAtical Murder.

And yet everyone forgets that Koujaku is an attempted rapist. I don't care if he apologized or if he ~*wasn't himself*~ at the time- when you get to platinum jail they basically tell you that it was in his true nature. You bet your titties I judge the hell out of people that like him.

IDGI

Wow. It'd been a while since I played the game but I'd totally forgotten about this. Probably because Koujaku is portrayed in a pretty positive light in-game versus Mink (????? babbling here... IDGI either).
chronophage: (jägerbombs)

[personal profile] chronophage 2013-10-26 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
He's positive versus mink but he is by no means guilt-free and TBH he grosses me out more thank Mink. At least the game makes it very clear that Mink is a bad person. Koujaku pretends to be a nice guy and the fangirls eat it all up.
I really don't get the appeal and I have no idea why people fawn over him when he's an attempted rapist?

(Anonymous) 2013-10-26 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that bothered me about Koujaku tbh and I guess that's part of why I don't like him even though by looks he's totally my type.

I'm just really sick of seeing him and seeing everyone go crazy for him and talk about how cute he is and how he's the ~*perfect boyfriend*~. It's like everyone has selective memory or tries to make up excuses for his actions and then turns around to shit on Mink (who, for the record, I don't care for either). It just really rubs me the wrong way and it made DMMD really disappointing for me.

Yaoi game? non-con?

brb downloading

sorry I'm horrible

(Anonymous) 2013-10-26 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, Mink's scenes are very much non-con and pretty violent too so you can knock yourself out.

I guess the worst part is that I totally understand why people would like Mink's route based on their kinks. But most of his fans seem to like him because he's later redeemed in an additional route, and he proceeds to have a "normal" and "consensual" relationship with Aoba. I'd be mad as hell if I was into Mink for the violent non-con stuff and then it would just suddenly turn into cute fluff.......

(Anonymous) 2013-10-26 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, uh. I don't really know the characters, but even though non-con and dominance is a kink, I can't stand "I raped you, um sorry!" and everything is okay. I'm not totally beyond redeeming rapists (to some extent) in fiction if it's done really well, but I don't really have faith in 99.9% of yaoi to pull that off.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-26 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
How do you get this game? Sorry, I've never played yaoi games before but I'd like to try, and this seems like as good a start as any. Is there a place to buy/download them, or can you get them fan translated?

And there's also the thread on Aarinfantasy with all the host links and troubleshooting, but you'll need an account for it. The English patch for the sequel is going to be released this month.

SA

I forgot to add this: the game contains quite a lot of violence, gore, and general fucked up shit (especially in the bad endings), so don't play it if that's not your thing!

(Anonymous) 2013-10-26 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
gore?! I thought this was like a porn game. o_O

Thanks for the help though. lol I don't mind... action violence, but is this supposed to be like, kinky, or just straight up horror? I still want to try it if it's a yaoi game that actually has a fandom... but..

(Anonymous) 2013-10-26 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
It's a porn game set in a vaguely cyberpunk world, but it's made by a company known for its dark themes. You can easily avoid the bad endings by using a walkthrough, but the common route has an attempted gangrape. From what I've seen on the Tumblr tags, the fandom is very lively and pretty friendly, but a good chunk of it seems to be underaged. (I was 18 before I was 18, but I sure didn't declare my real age on my blog profile...)

Here's a full list of warnings for all the routes off the top of my head: violence, rape, abuse, sexual slavery, attempted rape, amputation, decapitation, pseudo-bestiality (robot animals), blood, cannibalism, sort of selfcest/incest (it's complicated).

Overall I found it to be a fun game with top notch artwork, music, and voice acting, even though the writing didn't compare to say, Lamento. But while it seems to be a popular first BL game, it's definitely not for everyone. I would say sample the OSTs and official artwork first before deciding if you want to play the actual game.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-26 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
And because my reading comprehension sucks today: most of the messed up stuff such as the cannibalism and amputation are presented as horror afaik.

I liked his route in the original game for what it was and liked what happened between him and Aoba in Re:Connect. Whenever arguments erupt in the fandom it usually goes in an endless circle of "MINK FANS CONDONE RAPE" vs. "LOL WHEN DID WE SAY WE CONDONE HIS ACTIONS? PLZ SHOW ME" ad nauseum, which causes me to stay the hell away.

What he did to Aoba was horrible and I know it is without doubt, but it somehow still squicks me out way less than what Virus and Trip do to him. I've seen people say "lucky Aoba" for being caught between Virus and Trip and seeing it kind of makes me feel physically ill, but I guess that's the distinction that has to be made in both cases; liking it for the kink vs. thinking Aoba's fortunate in either situation because they're "hot" or whatever.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-26 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
Not going to lie, the Mink scene at the club was probably the hottest thing in the game for me. I felt a little bit guilty that I fapped to it afterwards considering all of the OTHER rape that happens..
