But if it's two children or two teenagers is it still ephebophilia or pedophilia? I thought that was just with an adult with an underage person.

If you're an adult (or near-adult) writing about two kids having sex then sry2say that's still pedophilia as far as I'm concerned.

I think there's a difference between nostalgic writing about something most people have experienced (i.e. first times and childhood exploration) and writing about an adult preying on a child.

I really wouldn't classify writing about kids in sexual situations as "nostalgic". First times with characters who are just skating the underage line (so 15, 16, 17, depending on where you are), sure, I don't have a problem with that. But no one will convince me someone's writing about two kids having sex for ~nostalgia~.

Yeah... in retrospect I did not mean to defend gratuitous and oversexualized sex scenes featuring children.

I mean, if you're writing fic where your characters are kids and you want to have them hold hands and give each other pecks and be cute, that's fine. But sexualizing kids? Even if it's with each other, there's still an adult (or someone several years older than those kids, anyway) behind the screen writing that, and adults reading it.

Just to clarify I just finished reading a multi-chaptered AU fic where the pairing characters meet as children and like children start approaching having sexual experiences at 11/12 iirc. Which is where I was coming from and not like "Hardcore sex scenes featuring 8 year olds is totally kosher!" or anything.

*snort* Maybe it's not nostalgia, but that doesn't mean it's all pants-feelings either. Characters have lives and backstories to be developed, and some of that will, oh noes! contain their first sexual experiences.

Oh please, highly developed nations in Europe have 14 as the age of consent. I'm not saying that's when all kids have sex, but it's not much later than 15 or 16 from my (European) experience.

Writing about it is not necessarily some weird kinky fantasy -- it genuinely is remembrance. Life is complicated and often terrifying when you're a teen...but in an environment of early sex education and parents who are ok with you having sex but just want you to be safe and respected, sex is the least of your worries, and in fact may make a lot of them easier.

You should work on your reading comprehension. I was talking about kids, not teenagers.

And lol I'm from a European country with 14 as the age of consent too so please take your condescending tone elsewhere.

This. And even taking into account the argument of "what if the person who wrote it is underage," AO3 and other sites' policies is that you have to be at least 13 to join and 18+ to read explicit stuff (don't know if same 18+ requirements are there to post).

So yeah. Maybe some minor grey areas regarding ephebophilia, but the pedophilia is still dead out.
