Norwegian Films?

(Anonymous) 2013-10-25 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I haven't been here in a long time but there used to be at least one or two people here regularly who were from Norway and I hope someone can help me out.

I'm looking for Norwegian films with English subtitles, preferably released in the last 5-10 years. I've seen The Troll Hunter but I would like to see some serious films. I've heard that there have been a lot of great Norwegian films made recently but because I don't read or speak the language, I'm having trouble finding what to watch. I appreciate any help or recommendations!

my favorites are older than what you're looking for, but they available with subtitles online:

Edvard Munch - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0074462/

Only Clouds Move the Stars - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0157356/

You tried, I was asleep and didn't have time to get on DW before now. It seems like the others covered it pretty well.

Also Anon if you ever read this: I am pretty clueless on Norwegian films, except I do study film and television and have some idea about what is good and not when it comes to our films, if you have any more questions you are more than welcome to PM me or contact me in any of the ways you should find on my profile and I will try as hard as I can to help you out.

I googled to check if both movie and the subtitles for all these films were available for download online, and they should be. I didn't try to download any of them though, so I can't say anything about quality and things like that. So, here's some films;

Mannen som elsket Yngve (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1114723/)
Hodejegerne (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1614989/?ref_=nv_sr_1)
Max Manus (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1029235/?ref_=nv_sr_1)
Elling (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0279064/?ref_=nv_sr_6)
Kon-Tiki (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1613750/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1)
Død Snø (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1278340/?ref_=nv_sr_1)
Kongen av Bastøy (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1332134/)
En ganske snill mann (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1386683/?ref_=nv_sr_1)

You can also check out this Wikipedia page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Norwegian_films. The user lists on the side of some of the IMDB pages listed can also be checked out.

Oh, and if you want to try out a television show there's Lilyhammer (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1958961/?ref_=nv_sr_1) which is about a mobster from New York (played by Steven van Zandt) who goes into hiding in the town Lillehammer. This touches upon a lot of things in Norwegian society that may seem strange to outsiders. I believe this is available on Netflix.

Kon-Tiki should be the easiest by far to find. I think it was nominated for an Oscar?

Yup, it got nominated last year.

I think Max Manus and Hodejegerne should be fairly easy to find as well.
