Is there any etiquette for following someone? Do people get weirded out by random followers?

no, random follows are expected and most people like them. although it is always nice for someone to say hi when they add you.

No, nobody rational is going to complain about getting new followers. If they don't want people following them they'll probably just make their tumblr private.

Nah, I love when people follow me! Then get sad for about 2 seconds when someone stops.

How do you know if someone starts or stops following you? Is this an email alert i don't see, or something on my dashboard i'm not checking, or....?

Well if someone starts like 80% of the time you get an email plus a note on your blog (like when someone reblogs). For unfollowing, you just have to notice the Follower Count go down.

Nope. I'm a random follower of people all the time. Nobody expects anything.

I do know that when someone start following me I check out the first few pages of their blog out of curiosity. (Also to check if they're a spam bot so I can block them.) But, uh, I think you're good.

Though I'm always curious about how people found me, it's nice getting new followers. No one should care.

And I like to check their blogs too. Sometimes I'll forget to but if I share their taste I might add them back.

Me too. I know I found you through F!S and most of my followers are from here. I have a really small follower count and don't make original posts much so when someone does follow me I wonder how they found out I exist.

Same here. I'm really picky about who I follow, though. Apparently it's weird to only follow 58 people.

I bet at least half of my followers found me through f!s too but I'm not sure. I don't have many either so when someone likes or reblogs a post of mine then adds me I always go, "Huh?"

I don't think it's weird! I follow around 75 and I'm always amazed; that seems like such a huge number of people to follow. IDK how my dash can ever be slow.

Yup, I notice every note too for the same reasons.

My dash is never slow either. There are people who follow hundreds. I don't know how.

People are usually pretty happy with random followers. I'll pretty much auto-follow back too, if the first few pages of their tumblr are good/if they post fandoms I like.

Follow at will! Most followers are random for everyone :D

However when it comes to unfollowing some people get really weird about it :/ But go ahead anyway.

I'm only disappointed about a new follower when they're some spam porn blog

i follow whoever i want w/o expecting a followback or whatever

i guess it just depends on the person but nobody ive followed has ever cared or at least hasnt said so if they did ?? i dont think anybody rly has any shame when it comes to random follows there
