Or maybe there is a vast difference between a 19-year-old getting it on with a 16-year-old and a 30-year-old getting it on with a 10-year-old REGARDLESS of what someone's personal threshold for underage is.

My major squick is unequal power dynamics--for instance, I'm not at all into romances between teachers and students (sexual or not.) An 18-year-old and a 17-year-old don't really have a power difference between them. An 18-year-old and a 10-year-old have a clear power difference, so it's a different situation, and I think it deserves a harsher tag.

Like the power imbalance tag?

There really isn't in most places in the US and the guidelines of AO3 specifically mirror US laws about such things. If you want to read about one kind of underage, you're just going to have to chance encountering other kinds of underage.

Sometimes it's not a matter of wanting to read about one kind of underage, though, it's more that most characters in a fandom are technically underage at 16 or 17 so everything could be tagged as underage anyway and you have no way of figuring out when a fic might be straight-up pedo shit if it's not clear from the summary.

I don't think it's a ridiculous idea to want separate tags when everyone is clearly aware that there's a difference IRL even if there ~technically isn't under the law.
