I'm kind of with you on this, OP. I like participating in fannish things on the internet, but in the real world, I really don't deal with it well. Like, going to cons, or live performances of things, or anything screenings, things like that, I always feel like I'm not THAT big a fan, and I always end up feeling embarrassed for the people there. Which, I recognize, is pretty cruel of me, but that's why I prefer to avoid that kind of atmosphere.

Yeah, I'm kind of that way too. Like a lot of people get really into fandom, which is fine, but it seems like a good chunk of them take somethings about fandom more seriously than I'm interested in, which is also fine but not for me.
