Justify your ships that pass in the night

(Anonymous) 2013-10-26 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
You how sometimes fandom latches on to ships that are between characters who don't have much interaction at all? Well, I think some of them are criticized unfairly, because even if they don't have much actual canon interaction, the potential for how their interactions could go, given their canon personalities/histories, can still be really interesting. But there are other ships of that sort that I just. Don't. Get. I assume most of them have good reasons to ship them, but I would need a fan to point out the reasons for me to see them.

So, this is a thread for either a) asking "what's the deal with ship x/y?" -- meant to actually get someone to answer and give a good explanation for what the deal is, not an excuse to make snide remarks about x/y, mind. Or b) explaining why you like x/y and why it makes sense even though a lot of people say it doesn't.

I like Heimdall/Loki because I want to see them have sex. Yes, I am shallow. But some actual non-shallow reasons: I think Loki has a competence kink and Heimdall would hit all his buttons. Plus I think Heimdall is one of the few people who actually get to see the real Loki (however creepily he does it).

Take it from me mate, people won't like if you use the the word 'justify' in this context.

I still have no idea why the Transformers fandom has such a huge thing for Jazz/Prowl. There's maybe one shot in all of Gen 1 where they're standing next to each other and virtually no interaction to speak of, yet for some reason it's the Fandom OTP.

I just wonder if it's based on some epic fanfic from years before BayFormers happened and I got into the fandom.

I really don't get Alex Cabot/Casey Novak in SVU. They had TWO scenes together in all of canon and beyond that, they have nothing in common except that they've both prosecuted sex crimes. If anyone here ships it, I'm really curious as to why.

That said, my ship is perhaps even more questionable because it's two characters who've never once been on-screen together, but I love the idea of Olivia Benson/Bobby Goren from SVU and Criminal Intent, respectively. The reason it appeals to me is because I see a lot of parallels in their backgrounds; they both were raised by single mothers with a lot of problems, they both investigate the types of crimes their biological fathers committed, they're both married to the NYPD and overly attached to their partners, etc., but they deal with it in very different ways. Bobby's all head and Olivia's all heart, and I think they'd be really interesting together (and neither of them would ever find someone who'd understand them better than they'd understand each other).

Sherlock/Sally. They have a great chemistry. Or anti-chemistry. The hate sex should be epic.

Sirius/James. I don't know why this isn't as popular as Sirius/Remus. The subtext, man, the subtext.
