I think a lot of what goes on at conventions has to do with attendees being young and not properly socialized. And a lot also has to do with spaces being crowded and not properly ventilated, maybe? Also, sometimes people become hyper-excited and do weird things out of fannish glee.

I usually just go to the artist's alley and publisher exhibits to pick up everything I want, exchange a few business cards, go to see one or maybe two panels, and then leave the convention space to wait for the after-hour parties. The day belong to the screaming young people, but the night belongs to the older people who are way more chill and easy to hang out with.
