Writing

(Anonymous) 2013-10-27 08:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I want to write something now, but have no idea where to even start. Some of it's that I have a million ideas, some of which are like ten years old. :/

Advice?

Free writing? Like, take 15 minutes and write whatever comes into your head, even if it doesn't make sense. Then write something based off that.

Just sit down and write. Start with just "blah blah I don't know what to write" and keep typing. I'd suggest doing this ever day, set aside X amount of time and just write. Doesn't matter what, as long as you are actively writing the whole time. Don't think too much about it, just keep writing. Eventually you'll get something started.

set it for ten minutes and just mash out words until the timer goes off

if you feel like raising the bar you can add more minutes

if you still feel like writing when it's done, keep writing

change your mediums up a little. normally type in Word? try typing in a dreamwidth entry, or writing in a notebook. use different colored pens.

I usually start out rambling about my feelings until daydreams start to happen, sometimes I just write lists of ideas.

Pretend your characters are dolls and you're a kid smushing their faces together or dangling them over a volcano.

Listen to focus/meditation music on youtube while you work.

Write self-indulgent YA fantasy fiction

DA

That's what I'm trying to do. Have you had much success with it?

It was just an idea for OP to write

...but I actually have come up with ideas like that and was going to do one for NaNo a while ago but never started it.

there are various bingos--for example hc_bingo. You can sign up for a bingo card, and then be inspired by the various one-word prompts as you try and make whatever bingo. I didn't write for like a year but I've been writing small fics almost constantly since I signed up for that.
