Halloween fic

(Anonymous) 2013-10-27 08:18 pm (UTC)(link)
My fic is at a bit over 6000 words and I keep getting stuck. At this rate I'm not sure I can finish it in time for Halloween, which would suck. Any suggestions on how to get yourself unstuck or write faster? Anyone else writing Halloween fic? And how do you keep yourself motivated when you have a deadline?

Do you know how it's going to end? If you don't, figure that out. As soon as you know, start writing. Don't even worry about *what* you're writing. Write *crap*! But write, in the direction of your ending. Just get the bare bones down, no matter how awful, until you're at the end.

Then polish it up.

Good luck!

Break down your big scary deadline into smaller deadlines--like, if you've got 4 more plot points to get through, make sure you get at least one point per day written out. It doesn't have to be perfect (it doesn't even have to be good), but it gets the words on the page in a way that will lead to you making your eventual final deadline. Also, skip around and write the bits you know how to write right now, you don't have to do everything in order. This is how I got through every college finals week.
