Re: this is a thread about Asperger's

My mother has actually said to me "I think you're a little bit Aspergers".

I think she doesn't know what she's talking about, and she should stop throwing labels like "OCD" and "personality disorder" around.

But, to be fair, I could fit some of the characteristics.

Socially awkward (especially as a child). Dislike being touched (even by immediate family members). Picky eater, don't like the "feel" of some fabrics or materials, and sensitive to loud noises & bright lights.

Thing is, I function a lot better in everyday life than it would appear from these characteristics. It's made me aware how easy it could be for someone to "diagnose" themselves with something over the internet.

As for "Aspergers" - I know the DSM-5 came out this year, and there's been some rumours that the label no longer "exists" and it's under the umbrella of autism. Can anyone confirm this?
