How is slash against your religion? Is it all porn? Or all same-sex or gay relationships?

practice of homosexuality. not BEING homosexual, mind you, but actually performing homosexual acts. (which sucks if you're gay, but it also sucks if you 'fall in love' with someone other than who you're married to, when adultery is also a no-no)

idk that there's anything specifically against porn, but it never seemed like the pros outweighed the cons of that for me. ^^

Yeah, that's still...I'm not saying that's enough for people to be calling you an awful person, but I can understand how people would still be offended by that. Particularly when you compare homosexual acts to adultery.

idk though, there are people who have problems with homosexuality and people who don't, and people who have problems with adultery and people who don't, especially if you're taking all the different cultures there are in the world into account. You clearly think that adultery is morally wrong and homosexuality isn't, but you're still making a moral judgement, your moral compass is just different from mine.

Okay, but can you understand why people think you're homophobic? Thinking that they are "morally wrong" is pretty bad. And while they are both judgement calls, I think that's the only way they're really comparable.

I mean at the end of the day I think what really matters is how you act, not so much what you believe. And you say you don't treat people any differently, so that's cool. It's just that I think it's also pretty normal to consider your views homophobic - which does NOT mean that people should treat you like shit or anything.

Thanks for answering my question in such a friendly manner though!

I can understand it for sure. Although 'homophobic' is kinda a strawman-y term that's used to aggressively shut down opposition most of the time. I feel like when someone says 'I have objections to homosexuality' people respond with 'HOMOPHOBE!!' in the same way reasonable folks can say 'I just want women to have a choice' and be met with 'BABY-KILLER!!'

I agree with that too. Actions speak louder than words. It's just that word 'homophobic'...it makes it seem like I have an unreasonable and unthinking and visceral fear and/or hatred of gay people, which is so not true. I do think people should treat each other less like shit all 'round. (i just wanna bake a cake filled with rainbows and smiles and everyone can eat it and be cool ㅜㅜ)

No problem! There are jackasses on both sides of any issue, and I'm sorry that douchenozzle religious people have made you surprised to be responded to friendly...ly.

Objections to homosexuality = homophobia. Religious objection, no matter how friendly, is still homophobic, and the opposition in your holy book - I'm going to guess Bible or Koran - is homophobic in nature.

You can try to say that you're friendly to everyone, but in the end, I ask you - how would you vote on gay marriage? Would you vote to make homosexuality illegal? Would you allow gay couples to be shown on TV, on kids shows? Would you encourage a loved one who is gay to be celibate, or try to become straight? Does your religion affect how you act, and what does your belief that homosexuality is evil mean to you? Basically, which are more important to you, human rights and freedom of choice, or your belief about what God wants you to do?

The thing is, you believe that something natural, something that represents love and sometimes even precious commitment between two people is evil. These are people that have faced violence and discrimination, even murder from people who have the same belief you do.

I would vote for gay marriage; I think it's not an issue the government has any right interfering in. As long as no religious authority is FORCED to marry a gay couple, and as long as there are purely secular benefits to being legally married, it's only fair for it to be legal.

I wouldn't vote to make homosexuality illegal. That would be silly, like making red hair illegal.

Gay couples are people, why shouldn't they be on tv? Kids shouldn't be sheltered from the real world and the real world has gay people in it. I don't think they should show PDA in kids shows, but then I don't think straight couples should have PDA in kids shows either. (idk man it just always seemed gauche to me somehow)

I would encourage them to remain celibate, yes. I don't think they could 'become straight' through force of will. Mind, I would also encourage a straight loved one who was, idk, obsessed with sex or something to remain celibate. I don't see celibacy as an appalling death of life and joy.

Of course it arrests how I act, it would be pretty pointless otherwise. XD You are kinda putting words in my mouth by saying it's 'evil' though. I consider both lying and murder to be sins, but I don't think lying is 'evil'.

How does me doing what God wants me to do infringe on someone's human rights? They're free to choose to practice homosexuality, I'm free to tell them I think God disapproves, they're free to disagree (or tell me to go die as is more common lol).

It is unfair in the extreme to conclude an argument with 'some people who believe the same thing you do have done x'. Hitler was against homosexuality and called himself 'Christian' and that bastard was the epitome of evil. (hoshit I think i just Godwin'd myself)

Waiiiit wait wait wait. If you understand that being homosexual is like "having red hair", how can it possibly be sinful? If people were created gay, they were created gay by God. Which means that their attraction to the opposite sex is not only natural, but intended by God. How can homosexuality - or red hair, or left-handedness - be a sin?

Sure, red-heads can shave themselves bald or dye their hair (in fact, red-hair was once considered a sign of "villainy"), and lefties can learn to use their right (in fact, for a long time left-handedness was considered "wrong" and defective and left-handed people were forced to use their right hand in school), and homosexuals can simply be celibate (as you would have it) or even force themselves into relationships with people of the opposite sex (as some would have it), but none of these things is "good" or "natural" and all of them are in defiance of God's creation.
