Re: this is a thread about Asperger's

I elaborated in that secret thread yesterday, but:

- found out about Asperger's and kinda went "....."
- literally half my immediate family has a formal diagnosis of Asperger's
- when my mom had Asperger's explained to her, she immediately thought of my childhood
- I also have a bunch of issues that are apparently strongly tied to ASDs (misophonia, face-blindness, auditory processing problems, hand-flapping) that I always thought were just me being weird

However, I have not sought any sort of formal confirmation or denial because:

- my mom started treating my brother like a widdle bittie precious sensitive baby who couldn't handle the real world and the entirety of his being was the Asperger's
- no insurance
- extreme phobia of psychologists (I honestly had panic attacks waiting outside the office of my girlfriend's therapist when waiting to give her a ride home, and the one time I went in with her all I really remember about the session was the pattern of the blanket on the chair I sat in because I just made myself focus on that the whole time to try to block out the fact I was in a therapy session)
- seriously, I'd been like this for 25 years before ever hearing of Asperger's, and had developed coping mechanisms and compensation methods for at least parts of it, so what difference does it make at this point in my life if I give my shortcomings a name?

So as it stands, I have strong suspicions but no confirmation and am not particularly eager to go about having anything confirmed, as I would rather just be thought of as my usual weird self than a disorder.
