Re: So I have this problem with a fic author vs her fic...
There's plenty of scientific evidence that being gay isn't a choice. If being gay isn't a choice - if people are indeed born that way, or in some other way caused to be gay (or bi or whatever else) and they had no control over it at all - then a) how can it still be considered sinful, and b) how is it loving or helpful to keep saying it's wrong and preventing them from having equal rights?
Being gay hurts nobody. It isn't destructive nor is it a "root cause" of horrible things. There's no indication that any of that is true. And in my conscience I cannot treat them as though they don't deserve the same rights and humanity, nor can I claim it's unnatural when all evidence suggests that it is in fact natural, nor can I fail to stand up against the oppression, injustice and inequality they face in our world.
Not to be an ass, but yeah you are homophobic if you're willing to openly say that being homosexual is "wrong". It's incredibly damaging to tell someone that an integral part of them that they cannot help or control is unnatural/sinful/wrong.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-28 05:03 am (UTC)(link)But at the same time, simply being a 'natural urge' does not grant it some kind of moral prerogative. It's is natural for a male of breeding age to wish to procreate with as many genetically viable females as possible, but most people would agree that for a married man to break his vows is morally wrong.
It's like people think the only choice is to march in gay pride parades (endorse and support the lifestyle) or throw shit on them (oppress them). I'm never gonna march in one but I'd gladly form a human barricade to prevent them from being harmed.

Hahaha whaaaaaaaaaaaat. Humans are k-selected, friend - that's literally the opposite of our mating strategy.
Real science is fun!
Re: So I have this problem with a fic author vs her fic...
Humans are sexual beings who desire relationships and sexual satisfaction. If a person is attracted to someone of the opposite gender, you consider it acceptable for them to get married to someone and have sex with them and a fulfilling lifelong relationship. But if they're of the same gender that's not okay?
And honest question, how would you vote if the question of marriage equality was presented directly to the people?
