I once encountered this guy who brought to the register a toy that had a clearance sticker on it with the wrong price, and a big enough difference that we couldn't honor the difference ($5 limit). So I offered him $5 off the real price, as is our policy, and apologized for the wrong price tag being placed on the item (with the name of a different item ON the tag, mind you, so looking at the price tag made it clear it was not meant to be on that item) and he started freaking out at me, saying I was accusing him of switching price tags. Because he was black. I assured him that I was doing no such thing, and honestly suspected one of my (white, extremely lazy) coworkers had put the wrong tag on it by mistake. He insisted I was accusing him, and wanted to talk to my manager.

So my manager comes over. White guy. Hears the customer's case, tells him exactly the same thing I told him - he can have $5 off the actual price of the item. Customer freaks out again, says we're BOTH accusing him of price tag switching because he's black. Wants to talk to the store manager in charge. My manager is like "Okay!" and makes the call.

Store manager in charge shows up. Happens to be a black woman. Doesn't even offer him the $5 off - the actual price is the actual price and that's that. Dude suddenly has no more complaints. ;)

In my department it was mostly white 20-something guys stealing or trying, because either it was credit card fraud involving XBox systems or people opening and emptying packs of Yu-Gi-Oh cards, before they started locking the cards inside a case.
